Yes, but… (isn't there always a "but" in these types of answers)?
Yes—you can petition to switch teams in the middle of a sprint, and we'll accommodate a switch under the right circumstances: we handle these requests on a case-by-case basis.
However, we try not to do this, since it's disruptive for all teams. It means that both our moderators and captains have to make adjustments to team rosters. And team members must account for you as a new member without having had the chance to become familiar with your work or critiques. Once a sprint is underway, all participating teams are largely focused on workshopping.
While we will do our best to accommodate your request, it's more likely that we may have to move you (temporarily) to a non-participating team, or add you to an existing team as a non-participating member.
This basically means you'll be part of a team that's participating in a sprint, but you won't be visible on the roster, nor will you be able to post or receive critiques. Additionally, you will have to wait until the next sprint commences before becoming an active member of your new team.
